Book Writing Guidelines

Your story can be about anything you want! You can retell a popular fairytale in your own words, or make up a new ending for it. You can write your own fictional story, or maybe tell about a personal experience.  The ideas are endless; you are the author.
  • After contacting us, you will receive a 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" blank booklet in which you will write your story.
  • On the cover, include the title of the story and a picture.
  • One page one, make a "Title Page" with the title of your story.
  • On the following pages, tell your story! You do not have to use all of the pages in your book. Your story can be a maximum of 30 pages.
  • NOTE: Please type your story, cut it out to fit the pages, and then glue-stick or double-stick tape it into the book.
  • Be sure to include some pictures. You may be the illustrator and draw your own pictures, or you can use pictures from the Internet.
  • The finished book should be neat and easy to read.
  • The learners have about a fourth to seventh grade reading level.  In your stories, be sure to use writing or vocabulary that would not be too difficult for a typical elementary school student to understand.
  • (Optional): On the last page of your story you can make an "About the Author" page. On this page, you can include your first name and other information such as the state in which you live, your grade level, hobbies/interests, etc... This will give the learners a chance to read about the authors of their stories!
  • Return the finished books to Maria, Rob, or Kaitlin. We will ship them to Namibia.
